1. Aside from ALPINE RACER 2, what other games did you work on at Namco?
A:
Timecrisis 2, Firebull (which released for only themepark)

1a. What role did you have in ALPINE RACER 2? Director? Designer?
CG Background Graphic designer.

2. How and why was Cavia formed? Were you all (you and the ex-Namco
staff) unhappy with Namco at the time, or did you and everyone else
simply want to move on from them?
A:
At that time, Playstation2 was released from SCE. Many people felt
that game developing will be changed. And many company was
restructured.
Cavia was one of the new development company. Not only ex-Namco people
but also form sega and SCE.

Who is "Chikara Uchino", and was he an employee of Namco as well?
A:
He was just 'hired president'. Not owner. Not creator.

3. Were you made aware during DRAG-ON DRAGOON 1's localization into
DRAKENGARD 1 that SQUARE ENIX removed/toned down taboo elements such
as FURIAE's incest thoughts towards CAIM and LEONARD's pedophilia
tendencies, as well as altered a few religous references, such as
chaning the names of the "天使" (ANGELS) into "THE WATCHERS"/"THE
GROTESQUERIES", and their "MOTHER" into "QUEEN GROTESQUERIE"?
How did/does it make you feel that these elements were censored for
overseas release? I talked about this a bit with a few people who
were aware of video game rating systems outside of Japan (such as the
ESRB and PEGI), and from what I could gather, America is a bit more
sensitive to taboos and violence [in video games] than Europe is.
Ironically, an obscure PC adventure game from 1996 (never released
Japan) called "HARVESTER" inclueded these types of elements and mcuh
more than your game did (The game was created during the height of the
American "Video Game Violence Debate" of the mid-to-late 90s, on
whether or not video games made people more violent; the debate
triggered by games such as "NIGHT TRAP" and "MORTAL KOMBAT"). Yet, it
got away with a "MATURE", rating, rather than the (more restricted)
"ADULTS ONLY" rating:

I tried to discuss to SquareEnix if I felt need for that problems.
But that was Japanese version only. As you can see, my english is so
so poor. I can't feel sensitive problem for each country. So, I always
entrust to profesional localization team.

Q:
Had you and the Cavia team stayed with Namco, do you think you
would've been given the chance by Namco to create "PROJECT
DRAGONSPHERE" or something similar to DRAG-ON DRAGOON there? As in,
the same type of twisted, "fucked up", Evangelion-inspired story,
etc.?
(Personally, while I don't think positively of DOD1's gameplay;
story-wise [and music-wise], you probably succeeded Evangelion.)
A:
DRAG-ON DRAGOON was not started by me. I was only 'hired director'.
Actually, producer did not care about story so much.
DOD was inspired from Dynasty Warriors. They concerned only gameplay.
So, I could make story without who obstructed to me. :)
And, Yes. DOD was influenced by Evangelion.
